Cortes Island Academy's Teen Takeover Radio Show

The Cortes Island Academy (CIA) has partnered with the Cortes Community Radio Station since 2022 to provide students with hands-on experience in journalism, podcasting, and live radio through the Teen Takeover initiative. This program allows students to co-host and contribute to the weekly radio show Folk U, where they share music and offer commentary on topics relevant to youth. 

The initiative is part of a broader educational model that includes project-based learning, with students producing podcasts, audio postcards, and other media content. These works are available on the Cortes Radio and CIA websites, and have been broadcast on CKTZ 89.5FM during the Folk U time slot, which airs on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m., Mondays at 6:30 p.m., and Wednesdays at 6 a.m.
