Financial Assistance Exclusive for the Cortes Island Academy

Cortes Island Academy Society works with the Cortes Island Communtiy Foundation to fundraise financial bursaries every year to support students–with a priority on local, Klahoose (and sister nation), indigenous, and other remote community youth–to be able to participate in the Academy irrespective of financial need. These bursaries are limited and vary from year-to-year (and we happily welcome new supporters (your donation is tax deductible.)

For local students finding housing on Cortes Island, there’s a small monthly subsidy that students from the School District 72 in areas without access to other local high school programs. Learn more at the Campbell River School District website.

RBC Future Launch Award

The RBC Future Launch Scholarship will be awarded to those who show passion and a clear vision for their future: For youth enrolled part-time in school or not in school at all. Grades and transcripts are not required.

Schulich Leader Scholarship

Schulich Leader Scholarships are Canada’s most coveted undergraduate STEM scholarships. One hundred are awarded to entrepreneurial-minded high school graduates enrolling in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math program at 20 partner universities across Canada. Half are valued at $120,000 for engineering scholarships and half are valued at $100,000* for science and math scholarships. Every high school in Canada can nominate one graduating student each year to apply for the scholarship.

Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship

  • $1500 to $5000
  • for young women, aged 16-19, currently studying at a secondary school, college or university, who demonstrate evidence of the following, are eligible to apply:
    • Active commitment to volunteerism.
    • Experience in local government, student government, or workplace leadership (paid or unpaid).
    • Volunteer leadership achievements.
    • Knowledge of Zonta International and its programs.
    • Support in Zonta International’s mission of empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy.

BC Excellence Scholarship

  • application due February  (exact date TBA), but see Jessica or Jeff in December if interested
  • There are 55 BC Excellence Scholarships available to recognize well-rounded B.C. graduates. Winners will have demonstrated service and leadership, both at school and in their communities, and shown aptitude and commitment to their chosen career paths. They will receive a $5000 scholarship voucher to use for post-secondary tuition.

BC Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship

  • application due February 15
  • This award is for learners who plan to pursue post-secondary education leading to becoming a teacher.

BC Tech Scholarship (Technology Impact Awards) – applications due February (exact date TBA). people going in to post-secondary programs related to technology. Look here for details.

RE/MAX Quest for Excellence Scholarship – applications due March 13. RE/MAX is offering 40 $1000 scholarships for people planning to attend post-secondary in Canada. Click HERE for more details and to access the application portal.

District /Authority Awards (VIDAS)

District/Authority Awards are provincially-funded awards. They recognize excellence for graduates who excel in the areas of fine arts, applied skills, physical activity, second languages, community service or technical and trades training. (PSII learners do really well on this scholarship!)  They offer a $1250 scholarship to be used towards post-secondary. The Deadline for application and all supporting documents in March 14.
