The stories we tell ourselves and others about the world and our role within it matters. The students of the Academy are guided in this exploration through numerous knowledge holders offering various perspectives on nature of truth and communication while sharing their learning journey through projects. The Students Films have been a moving demonstration of this work. In 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 the students did deep dives with local media empowerment project, Reel Youth.

Reel Youth delivers community development programming to youth and adults across Canada and internationally. Film production and distribution programs are designed to create positive change in young people’s lives through technical skill building, leadership training, creative collaboration with peers and mentors, and increased connection to community resources.
