Empowering Rural, Remote, and Indigenous Youth
Cortes Island Academy: A New Era of Learning
Our Partnership with the Cortes Foundation
Through our collaboration with the Cortes Foundation, we provide unique educational opportunities for rural and indigenous youth. This partnership allows us to offer tax-deductible donations for both US and Canadian donors, ensuring your contributions make a significant impact.
The fastest, easiest (and lowest fee) way to support our mission is to give a tax-receipted donation to the Cortes Island Student Bursary by sending an e-transfer to donations@cortesfoundation.ca with “CIA Bursary” in the Memo line.

Cortes Island Academy empowers rural, remote, and Indigenous youth through place-based education rooted in land, community, and leadership. Your donation helps us keep programs accessible, hire local knowledge holders, and create life-changing opportunities for students looking beyond the confines of traditional education. Every contribution helps grow the future – from the ground up.
The Cortes Island Academy is a community-driven experiment made possible by the countless hours donated by mentors and knowledge holders, along with the financial support from our donors, and the deep participation of parents and students.
We are grateful for our partnerships including The Campbell River School District, the Mark Torrance Foundation, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Catapulte Foundation, and the Cortes Foundation.
